The Repertory Orchestra serves as a vital training ensemble within the Memphis Youth Symphony Program, preparing dedicated student musicians for advancement to the Youth Symphony. These developing musicians build their orchestral skills through performances at community venues and school outreach concerts throughout the Mid-South region.
Conducted by Mark Cellini, students explore foundational orchestral repertoire that develops technical proficiency and ensemble musicianship. The Repertory Orchestra provides students with meaningful performance opportunities while emphasizing the fundamentals of orchestral playing, including section balance, intonation, and musical interpretation. Students have the opportunity to work with professional guest coaches and participate in masterclasses that accelerate their growth.
The ensemble presents 4 concerts annually with Sunday rehearsals at the University of Memphis from September through May. The MYSP Repertory Orchestra provides a supportive yet challenging environment where young musicians develop the skills and confidence needed to succeed at the highest levels of orchestral performance. Many Repertory Orchestra members advance to Youth Symphony and regularly earn positions in All-West and All-State ensembles.
