Audition Process
All MYSP students audition each year for ensemble placement in the following season. Auditions for the 2026–2027 season will take place on August 8th, 2026. Audition requirements can be found here.
Auditions are required for placement in all large ensembles.
All MYSP students are placed in ensembles through an audition. Our goal is to match each musician with the ensemble whose repertoire best fits their current playing level, ensuring they can both thrive within the group and continue to grow as musicians. Ensembles are not divided by age, but rather by musical development and readiness.

Don’t take our word for it. Listen to Staff and Students explain why they love belonging to the MYSP.
Who is eligible to audition?
String instrument candidates through the 12th grade; Wind Ensemble candidates must be at least in the 8th grade, Concert Band in the 7th grade by Fall 2025. All new and returning students are required to audition for the 26-27 season.
Which group is the right level for me?
Age and grade level vary in MYSP ensembles. The number of years you’ve played, daily practice, and private lessons make a big difference in experience levels. Players should seek advice from their private teachers and school music teachers regarding their current skill levels and audition requirements. You can also look at the audition requirements and determine what group seems like the appropriate level for you. Please indicate on your audition registration form which ensemble(s) you would like to perform.

Payment Plans

Financial Assistance
MYSP is committed to making high-quality music education accessible to young musicians throughout the Mid-South. We recognize that families have different financial circumstances and offer financial assistance to help reduce barriers to participation.
Financial assistance is awarded based on demonstrated financial need and the availability of scholarship funds. Students must audition for and be accepted into an MYSP ensemble before financial assistance is awarded.
Families who would benefit from financial assistance are encouraged to apply.
MYSP Access Scholarship
The MYSP Access Scholarship provides full tuition assistance to help remove financial barriers and expand access to high-quality orchestral music education.
The Access Scholarship is intended to remove barriers to participation and increase representation among students who have historically had less access to classical music opportunities. MYSP is committed to building a music community that reflects the diversity of the Mid-South and believes every young musician deserves the opportunity to learn, perform, and grow through music.
Scholarships are awarded through a holistic review of each application, taking into consideration financial circumstances, access to music opportunities, and the student’s experiences and background.
Students must audition for and be accepted into an eligible MYSP ensemble before an Access Scholarship can be awarded.
All tuition and fees are nonrefundable and subject to change each season.
