2026 Spring Wind Ensemble & Concert Band

The Memphis Youth Symphony Program is proud to offer two exceptional wind ensembles, giving talented band students across the Mid-South additional opportunities to perform challenging repertoire in a collaborative environment.

MYSP Wind Ensemble
Kevin Carpenter, Conductor

• Rehearses Sundays from 3:00–5:00 PM
• Spring Semester only (January-May)
• Advanced level
• Grades 8-12
• Audition required

The MYSP Wind Ensemble brings together the most accomplished band students from across the Mid-South for an advanced wind ensemble experience. Conducted by Kevin Carpenter, these talented musicians explore challenging repertoire spanning classical masterworks to contemporary compositions. The ensemble presents two spring concerts. Wind Ensemble provides dedicated young musicians with a rigorous yet supportive environment to refine their artistry and develop their passion for wind band literature.

MYSP Concert Band
Brent Hopper, Conductor

• Rehearses Sundays from 1-2:30 PM
• Fall and Spring Semester
• Intermediate level
• Grades 5+
• Audition required

The MYSP Concert Band offers intermediate-level band students an excellent opportunity to continue their musical growth beyond the school day. Conducted by Brent Hopper, students perform quality repertoire while developing their technique, musicianship, and ensemble skills. The Concert Band presents two spring concerts. This ensemble provides a welcoming environment where developing musicians build confidence and experience the joy of making music together.

Audition Requirements & Instructions
(Wind Ensemble and Concert Band)

Submissions due by Saturday, December 20th!

All instruments are required to prepare the following audition materials:

Prepared solo or etude of your choice that best demonstrates your playing level. All-West audition music is permitted.
Percussionists: Please record varied repertoire on at least two different instruments.
Full range chromatic scale.

Audition Instructions

Students should submit a recorded video audition by Saturday, December 20th.

Register to audition at the link below.
Videos may be recorded on a smart phone. No special equipment required.
Videos should be recorded in one take. You may play your required materials (above) in any order.
Upload your video to Google Drive, YouTube, or Dropbox. If using Google Drive, please set your permissions to “anyone can view.”
Email your video link to mysp@myspmusic.org by Saturday, December 20th at 11:59pm.

Students not selected for Wind Ensemble may be offered placement in MYSP Concert Band, providing an excellent opportunity for developing musicians to continue advancing their skills.
