Mr. Carpenter is the Director of Bands at Houston High School in Germantown, TN. Prior to working with THE Houston Band, "Mr. C" oversaw the band programs at some of the best schools in Memphis: Maxine Smith STEAM Academy, East T-STEM Academy, and Middle College High School. Outside of his time as a school-based band director, Mr. Carpenter is a sought-after conductor and clinician locally. He loves conducting the Memphis Youth Symphony Program’s Wind Ensemble and working with various summer camps.

He attended the University of Memphis’s Rudi E. Schiedt School of Music from 2014 to 2018, acquiring his BM in K-12 Instrumental Music Education. He received his Master of Music Education degree from the University of Georgia’s Hugh Hodgson School of Music in 2024.

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, he spent thousands of hours creating virtual performance opportunities for his ensembles and others’. Performances include the Memphis Area Virtual Youth Choir's performance of Ticheli's Earth Song, Memphis ChoralArts "4corners4peace" concert, Memphis-Shelby County School's "State of the District" Honor Choir performance of North by Sleeping At Last, and the performances of dozens of other organizations, helping thousands of musicians reach audiences of tens of thousands around the world. He continues his virtualPerformance.info studio work with audiovisual choral tracks for honor choirs and school choir programs.

He is deeply involved in local music and professional organizations. He is a member of the National Association of Music Education, the West Tennessee School Band and Orchestra Association, the Tennessee Music Education Association, the National Band Association, the Tennessee Bandmasters Association, National Educators Association, and the Tennessee Educators Association.
