Sebastian Gaviria is a Colombian violinist currently pursuing his Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees at the University of Memphis under the guidance of Professor Timothy Shiu. He also serves as a string teaching artist and director of the chamber music group at The Arts Space in Place, and as a string assistant of the Memphis Youth Symphony Program, actively contributing to the Memphis music community.
A graduate of the Universidad de Antioquia, where he studied with Dr. Ana MarΓa Trujillo, Sebastian began his training at the Red de Escuelas de MΓΊsica de MedellΓn. Since 2012, he has been a member of Iberacademyβan initiative promoting musical excellence and leadership in Latin Americaβand has performed with major Colombian orchestras, including the FilarmΓ³nica de MedellΓn, FilarmΓ³nica de BogotΓ‘, and the SinfΓ³nica Nacional.
He has collaborated with ensembles such as the New World Symphony, Houston Symphony, and Musikkollegium Winterthur, performing under conductors like Michael Tilson Thomas, AndrΓ©s Orozco-Estrada, and Roberto GonzΓ‘lez-Monjas, and alongside soloists such as Yo-Yo Ma, Lang Lang, Emmanuel Ceysson and Johannes Moser, among others.
