Sebastian Gaviria is a Colombian violinist currently pursuing his Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees at the University of Memphis under the guidance of Professor Timothy Shiu. He also serves as a string teaching artist and director of the chamber music group at The Arts Space in Place, and as a string assistant of the Memphis Youth Symphony Program, actively contributing to the Memphis music community.
A graduate of the Universidad de Antioquia, where he studied with Dr. Ana María Trujillo, Sebastian began his training at the Red de Escuelas de Música de Medellín. Since 2012, he has been a member of Iberacademy—an initiative promoting musical excellence and leadership in Latin America—and has performed with major Colombian orchestras, including the Filarmónica de Medellín, Filarmónica de Bogotá, and the Sinfónica Nacional.
He has collaborated with ensembles such as the New World Symphony, Houston Symphony, and Musikkollegium Winterthur, performing under conductors like Michael Tilson Thomas, Andrés Orozco-Estrada, and Roberto González-Monjas, and alongside soloists such as Yo-Yo Ma, Lang Lang, Emmanuel Ceysson and Johannes Moser, among others.
