The Youth Symphony is the flagship ensemble of the Memphis Youth Symphony Program, uniting the most talented student musicians from across the Mid-South. These advanced musicians serve as ambassadors for orchestral music through performances at prestigious venues like the Orpheum Theatre and community outreach concerts throughout the region.
Conducted by Kyle Dickson, assistant conductor of the Memphis Symphony Orchestra, students explore diverse repertoire spanning classical masterworks to contemporary favorites. The annual Side-by-Side concert with the Memphis Symphony Orchestra gives students the extraordinary opportunity to perform alongside professionals. Each season features our Concerto Competition, showcasing exceptional soloists at the Finale concert.
The ensemble presents four concerts annually with Sunday rehearsals at the University of Memphis from September through May. The MYSP Youth Symphony provides a rigorous yet inclusive environment where young musicians refine their artistry and develop a lifelong passion for orchestral music. Many members excel in All-State auditions and pursue their musical journeys at top conservatories.
